Gay marriage is now legal in Argentina!

The Argentine Senate approved early on Thursday morning a bill that allows the marriage of people of the same sex, making the country the first in Latin America to legalize gay marriage.

The victory came with a small majority, and the bill now needs only the approval of President Cristina Kirchner--who has already shown herself to be in favor of the measure--to become an established law of the country.

With this new legislation, couples made up of people of the same sex willl have the same rights as heterosexuals, including the possibility of adopting children, along with benefits related to social security as well as inheritance.

The approval was welcomed by members of the gay rights movement in Argentina and other countries, who consider the measure a step forward in recognizing the equality of homosexual couples throughout the world.
