A U.S. judge sentences an Iraqi who killed his daughter for being too “Western.”

An American judge imposed a thirty-four-year prison sentence on an Iraqi immigrant who murdered his own daughter because she had become too “Western” and did not want to follow Iraqi traditions.

Faleh Almaleki arrived in Phoenix, Arizona, with his family in the mid-nineties, when his daughter Noor was still a child. In 2007 he tried to travel to Iraq with her for an arranged marriage, but she refused.

At age nineteen, Noor went to work and began to live with her boyfriend. Almaleki then tried to kill both of them, and his daughter died after spending two weeks in a coma.

The judge said he was outraged by Almaleki’s complete lack of remorse.
