Some comments on the Interlingua course I elaborated for “Interlingua in Interlingua”

“Interlingua in Interlingua” (http://interlingua-in-interligua.tripod.com), a publication with articles on the sciences, travel, and interlinguistics, also has a course that I elaborated containing eighteen chapters.

The course is entirely in interlingua. If you already know a Romance language or a Romance language and English, you probably will be able to study it without difficulty. If you know only English, it is possible you will want to start with a course in Interlingua dedicated especially to English speakers. But because of the simplicity of the grammar of Interlingua, very soon you will be able to start studying the course I published in “Interlingua in Interlingua.”

The chapters in the first part of the course are divided into two parts, the first with texts to be read and the second with structural notes, which present a minimum of grammatical commentary coupled with a rich selection of illustrative examples.

Chapter 1 presents the verbs.

Chapter 2 presents the personal pronouns and demonstratives.

Chapter 3 presents the articles, adjectives, adverbs, nouns, some notes on lexical and grammatical words, and Part 1 of a series of notes on lexical words.

Chapter 4 continues with Part 2 of my series of notes on lexical words.

Chapter 5 concludes with Part 3 of my series of notes on lexical words.

Chapter 6 begins a discussion of the syntax of Interlingua. It starts out with a presentation of the vocabulary needed to discuss syntactical concepts and then presents sentences and prepositional phrases.

Chapter 7 discusses modal verbs and verb phrases, the elaboration of noun phrases, and relative and adverbial clauses. It concludes with a discussion of appositives.

Chapter 8 begins the discussion of the construction of more complicated sentences explaining their expansion through a series of questions and answers.

Chapter 9 continues the discussion of the expansion of more complicated sentences.

Chapter 10 concludes the discussion of the expansion of sentences, with a note on absolute constructions at its end.

Chapter 11 discusses the collateral spelling of Interlingua.

Chapter 12 discusses cardinal and ordinal numbers.

Chapter 13 discusses the pronunciation of Interlingua. This is the last chapter with structural notes.

Chapter 14-18 continue the presentation of a sketch of the history of the twentieth century.

Because of the simplicity of Interlingua grammar and its great similarity it has with the principal characteristics of its source languages, each chapter of this course presents a lot of information very concisely and clearly. Each chapter is reasonably short and can be conveniently downloaded, printed, and studied--either passively or more intensively, if you want an active knowledge of Interlingua.
