The risk of cancer increases with the use of cell phones.

Israeli researchers have noted a remarkable increase of cancer in the salivary glands. The researchers fear that the increase is caused by the growing use of cell phones. The study was supervised by Avi Zini of the Hebrew University, Hadassah School of Dental Medicine.

Between 1980 and 2002 nearly twenty-five people in Israel were afflicted with the illness each year. In the last five years the number has tripled. But the increase only afflicts the salivary glands located exactly where the telephone is held near the head.

Formerly the illness afflicted mostly people more than seventy years old. A large part of the increase is now found among young people. In fact, 20% of the people were under twenty years old.

A year ago thirteen scientific groups in throughout the world made a study of the risk of cancer in the salivary glands because of the use of cell phones. The study found a connection between the use of cell phones and the risk of cancer in these salivary glands. The risk increased with the frequency of use.
