An Interesting Publication in Lingua Franca Nova

Lingua Franca Nova, a planned language with a Greco-Latin vocabulary, is rather similar to Interlingua. The grammar of Interlingua is similar to the grammar of Spanish, but the adjectives of Interlingua do not have endings for gender and number and its verbs do not have endings for person and number.

The grammar of Lingua Franca Nova is different. It is closer to the creole languages of the world, and it does not preserve the characteristics of classical Latin spelling, many of which are preserved today in two of the source languages of Interlingua, English and French.

A person who knows interlingua well can understand around 90% of texts written in Lingua Franca Nova without special study.

Here is an example of Lingua Franca Nova:

Here is a translation of this text into English:

The Little Prince’ (‘Le petit prince’ in French, published in 1943), is the most famous book by the French aviator Antoin de Saint-Exupery. It has already been translated into more than 180 languages and has sold more than 80 million copies. There is a translation in Lingua Franca Nova. Most editions include some drawings by Saint-Exupery himself.

“Though it seems to be children’s book, ‘The Little Prince’ makes some profound and idealized points about life and human nature. In the book Saint-Exupery narrates the story of an encounter that he had with a young prince in the middle of the Sahara.

“The essence of the book can be found in significant statements that the fox gives to the little prince: ‘People see well only with the heart’ and ‘What is essential invisible to the eye.’

The fox also comes up with other essential messages such as ‘People are always burdened with the things that they tame’ and ‘The time that an individual spends with his rose is what makes the rose become so important.’”

Lingua Franca Nova now has a wiki with a considerable number of texts. Here is the URL of the site: http://lfn.wikia.com/wiki/Paje_xef.
